Are you experiencing frequent disconnections from WAR, especially when zoning or loading in a lot of players, to the server select screen/character select screen? If so, try this solution, which has been reported to have a fairly good success rate on forums I have posted it in.
SYMPTOMS:
A) You are disconnected seemingly at random, every few minutes to 10-20 minutes.
or
B) You disconnect a lot of the time when you are in an area with lots of players, or loading into an area with many people.
or
C) Your client is still able to either send or receive data, but not the other. Example: your chat messages still go through, but you aren’t receiving anything. Another example would be that you can still run around, but everything else is standing still as though it’s fully lagged-out.
or
D) Similar symptoms to the above.
Here’s a possible solution for your issue:
WINDOWS XP:
Click START, select CONTROL PANEL. In the control panel icons window that appears (NOTE: if you see a menu with a lot of categories, click “Show classic control panel” in the pane on the left) double-click on SYSTEM. Then, go to the HARDWARE tab at the top, and click the DEVICE MANAGER button.
Now, look for the NETWORK ADAPTERS item in this list. Double-click it to show your network card (example: Marvell LAN xxxxxxx), then right-click the network card in the list and select PROPERTIES in the context menu that appears.
Now, go to the ADVANCED tab and select “Checksum Offload” (it may be labelled Checksum Offloading instead), then on the right set it to DISABLE. Do this for ANYTHING with “Checksum Offload” in it, including items such as Checksum Offload Tx, Checksum Offload IPv4, etc. etc. Click OK and close the rest of the windows that were left behind.
WINDOWS VISTA:
Click the START button (the Windows Logo at the bottom left of the screen). In the menu, right-click on COMPUTER and select PROPERTIES in the context menu popup that appears.
Now, on the top-left of this window that shows info about your computer that comes up, click DEVICE MANAGER. You may be prompted by User Access Control (UAC) asking if you initiated the action (select YES, that it is ok to do).
Then, look for the NETWORK ADAPTERS item in this list that appears.
WHAT NEXT?
If it worked, great! If not, you can either leave the tweak alone (for 99% of users the Checksum Offload feature is not something they use, and can cause issues like this in some other games as well), or re-enable Checksum Offload if you want. It will not have any impact on your network performance or system speed, so there’s no need to really worry about it.
Hope it helped!
